We have purchased a new server in a new data center that we will be switching to in early January.

Our new server provider will be SoftLayer, which is a great company focused on high-end dedicated hosting. We are making this switch as SoftLayer can provide us with better upgrade options, access to a faster network and more control and information about our servers.

As part of the switch, our primary webserver is being upgraded to an 8 cpu-core, 16gb ram monster, which is a substantial upgrade from what we are currently running on. We will also be gaining Gigabit network speeds from our Server out to the net, and both a public and private network, which will prevent our backup scripts from disrupting public network traffic while they are running.

All of this means our site will be running faster and better then ever once we make the move, and we will have access to great upgrades when we need them in the future. We are planning to make the switch in about two weeks and will keep you guys updated about it here and through notifications.

Happy Holidays =)

*note: because we are switching to a different data center, the IP address of our web server will be changing. This will mean guilds which use a custom domain name will have to update the DNS for their domains to point to the new servers IP address when we switch - we will send out several notifications about this as we get closer to making the switch.

Grats on the new server. Sounds like a great upgrade. Will we have Site downtime for any limited amount of time? Should we back up pertinent information or will it all be saved by your during the transfer?

There will be some downtime when we do the transfer, somewhere between 2-4 hours. We will do it at a low traffic time, around 4am EST, so most people will not notice.

You will not need to backup any info, everything will be copied to the new server.

I was wondering if it will have new options on packages like bigger space and stuff like that :)

Wow great work! What about sites that use a custom MMOguildsites domain for a long time now? Do we need to change anything? :)

If you use an mmoguildsites subdomain, such as enmity.mmoguildsites.net, you will not have to do anything. Once the transfer is complete everything will be exactly as it was...but faster! =)

If you use a custom domain name you own, such as enmity.com, you will have to update the DNS settings for your domain name to point to our new servers IP once we make the transfer. This should be a quick easy process, and we will provide notifications when we are closer to keep those guild owners aware of when we are making the switch.

Ok thanks for letting me know, but i actually have no clue what you are on about. We got a custom domain - eternaldream.mmoguildsites.net but we also have www.eternaldream.info.

www.eternaldream.info links (redirects?) to eternaldream.mmguildsites.net - could you tell me how to update DNS settings?

Elvaleryn,

You will not have to change anything with that setup, everything will continue working for you after we make the switch =)

Excellent! I haven't found Eternal Dream to run slowly, but this is great news anyway :-) Faster is ALWAYS better :P
